Jim- soldier, cocky, and uncertain of himself
Henry- main character/ farmer who enlisted on the north(union side), young
Henry's mom- has a fear for her son's life and would just assume he stay home where he can do what he does best.. farm.
comrades- many already formally known
loud soldier- " Huh"... ignorant, mental outcast
tall soldier- long known friend; Private
colonel- thinker... seems smart; thinks strategically
lieutenant- forceful almost to a sense of pushing towards success.
Wilson- inconfident like Henry but still a good fighter, but they are goood friends even in the end.
tattered soldier- caused Henry to question what he wanted and who he really was when he needed to be a warrior.
