PHOEBE- the girl Sal shares a lot of specifics with, quiet, round face, blue eyes, curly blonde hair, very superstitious
MARGARET CADAVER- red hair, w/ John, name means dead body
JOHN- Sal's dad. kind man, good-hearted, lonely man
GRAMPS AND GRAM- ride w/ Sal to find her mother and listen to her story
MRS. PARTRIDGE- Margaret's sister, lives w/ them.
MARY LOU FINNEY- friend of phoebe's and Sal's, has a lot of outbursts
MEGAN AND CHRISTY- jumpy girls from school
BETH ANN- moody girl from school
ALEX- rosy cheeked girl from school
BEN- draws cartoons that tie into everything
MR. BIRKWAY- energetic English teacher, loves his subject, wants everyone else to too
CHANHASSEN- Sal's mother, AKA "sugar"
GRANDPARENTS PICKFORD- uptight, very respectful, but nothing like Sal's mother.
PRUDENCE- Phoebe's older sister, depends on her mother to fix everything
BOY @ THE DOOR- asked for Mrs. Winterbottom. could be sending the messages
THE WINTERBOTTOMS- Phoebe's family, very civilized, but generous
