Summary----------
Sal is the main character. She has lived in Bybanks, Kentucky for most of her life. she is 13 yrs. old and her mother left her father, so she is very alone without her mom and doesn't know how to take it. She goes with her Gramps and Gram( her father's parents) to find her, so they can reunite. On the way, she begins to tell her grandparents a story of how this adventure went with a girl named Phoebe and how them meeting each other brought their stories together.
The day they moved to Euclid was when she met Phoebe at school. After they became friends and knew each other well, Phoebe had invited Sal to her house where they shared their thoughts on Margaret.
They stop here and there when they stop their travel or have something they need to do, like input. But when the story stops, something else is going on @ that time.Phoebe told Sal that she suspected that Margaret killed her husband.. that made her feel unsure about her and her father from then.
Sal has flashbacks of what was good when her mother was with them and she feels lonesome without her, but she also feels that she gets closer and closer to her all the time.
she can't wait to see her again.
on page 51 is the 1st reference to the title... The message on the Winterbottoms' doorstep, Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins. They don't know where these are coming from or from whom the are being sent, but they know that whoever they are supposed to go to, it is a message for them. The call this boy the lunatic and they see him often, but is it him sending the messages?
Reflection/response-----------------------
Sal's story hasn't quite come all together yet b/c it's a story from the past, but may have also something to do with finding her mother. She takes her grandparents w/ her through the adventure and tells them this story of how her's and Phoebe's stories come in close quarters. The time spent w/ Phoebe has affected the way she tells her story and looks @ this adventure w/ her grandparents. The message Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins that appeared on Phoebe's door step, is the 1st reference to the title of the book, and is one that will probably effect the way the story is told now from then to the end. Something with finding her mother is something that she feels will help her find herself. She cannot help but remember her mother and everything they did b/c she then had only happy memories and desires them back.
