chapter 18-25 ( pg. 107-157) Sat. February 14th

Summary------
for the first time in this book, she mentions what a good man her father is. He did so much to make her mother feel like the most important woman in the world, but him being so perfect made her feel worthless to him in her mind. And she explains that her mother left b/c of some things, but she couldn't explain.
Phoebe saw the lunatic and ran home to find the door locked, but when her mother answered it, she couldn't explain why it was locked in the first place. Something was very wierd. Soon after, her mother left a note on the kitchen table that said
Keep all the doors locked and call your father if you need anything. I love you, Phoebe.
Mom
Prudence also recieved a letter from their mother that told her to cook.. they expected her to be gone for awhile, but back soon, and their father got one that said she had to go away and she couldn't explain why. They all became very worried then.
Phoebe was panicking and made up excuses for why she had to stay home.. She made any accusation about what happened to her mother that she could just to be there when she came home, but her father allowed her to go to school and told her that her mother was not a bird that they could cage up.. she was free to do what she wanted.
Sal told of her mother being pregnant and losing the baby so that she couldn't have anymore children. She was broken then and became very lost without the oppurtunity to do with a child as she desired. She remembered all of this when she went to the Badlands. He mother worte her there.
When they left there, Sal returned to her story and she explained that soon after her mother missing, Phoebe found another message. It said,

You can't keep the birds of sadness from flying over your head, but you can keep them from nesting in your hair.

People kept asking her about her mother and when she was coming home, but it being such a stressful day.. she stayed with Sal.

Response/Reflection------------

Is Phoebe's feeling the same way Sal's mother felt?
Her mother is doing the same thing that Sal's mother did and that seems that they could end up in the same situation, but will it?
Why would she leave without any words of why?
Phoebe is feeling very empty without her mother and Sal is doing her best to keep her on the up and up, but when she tries Phoebe just tries to fix it and do her best to bring her mother back.

Who are these messages really meant for and what do they mean?
